Comparing and Contrasting
the Mona Lisa
Vincent Van Gogh’s style is very different from Leonardo Da Vinci’s.
First off, if you look at the Mona Lisa, you will notice that the portrait
is very realistic. But, in Van Gogh’s self-portrait he paints
the lines very strangely which makes the painting have a lot of friction.
The friction depicted in the portrait may show Van Gogh’s own
life. In his life he was very talented, but received no credit for it
until after his death.
I think that the purpose of the Mona Lisa was to make realistic style
painting more memorable. This way, Da Vinci’s painting looks like
a photograph, but Van Gogh’s painting shows more emotion. The
Mona Lisa resembles Da Vinci and many people think that Da Vinci was
actually painting a self-portrait, but using a woman. I believe that
Da Vinci and Van Gogh had two different styles, and used them both effectively.
This way the Mona Lisa and Van Gogh’s self-portrait are very different,
but both excellent paintings.
