| "Girl Sewing" is more memorable than the "Mona
Lisa" because of the whole serenity in the portrait. The Mona, in my
opinion, has too much dull yellow in the colors, giving you a feeling of
dissatisfaction; and the whole painting leaves you on edge instead of putting
you at ease. The way that the Mona Lisa is staring at the onlooker is almost
surreal and eerie. About that "mysterious smile," it makes you
want to shout at the painting, "What are you smiling about!" leaving
the person frustrated at a painting. This last feeling doesn't make for
a good painting. This is why "girl sewing" by Mary Cassatt is
more memorable. |
