The wheel course is a short six week introduction to art at Jordan. Students
learn step-by-step drawing and painting techniques and are introduced to digital
art and ceramic construction. During that time students create a cubistic
portfolio cover in the style of Pablo
Picasso and complete four to five other projects. Usually, the most popular
assignment is the opportunity to make a piece of ceramic
pottery that serves as a container. Other projects include a fantasy figure
drawing and collage in the style of Marc
Chagall, a digital landscape using Procreate
Painter, and an Impressionistic
pastel drawing modeled after a still life by Paul
Cezanne. This last lesson teaches perspective, value, shape, and form and
is always a challenge, but one in which the students are surprised in their
achievement.
