The famous artist Leonardo da Vinci, also known as La Gioconda, created the Mona Lisa. There are numerous theories about what Leonardo painted. Some people think that Leonardo was trying to portray the best characteristics of many women, yet others think that he was painting Madame Lisa Giocondo, Francesco del Giocondo's wife. The Mona Lisa is an oil on wood painting and was painted between 1503 and 1506. To this date, we still can’t find an emblem that indicated who Leonardo painted. Most of the paintings those days usually had a stamp or something to tell who the artist painted. The Mona Lisa is 77 by 53 cm, and is now located in the Louvre, a museum in Paris. The Mona Lisa is a fascinating painting and there are a lot of hidden aspects to this painting buried deep within it, some of which, we still aren’t aware of. It may seem as if the Mona Lisa is smiling at first, but if you look closer at her features she is just staring plainly ahead. There are also dark spots around her eyes that curve slightly up so they seem as if she is baleful. Her long curly hair, clothes that she is wearing and figure, suggests that this picture is of a woman. Her face seems as if Leonardo is trying to portray some features of the women’s hidden personality. Her dark eyes and angle of her face is slightly tilted. Her hair line is slightly off and there is a tuft of hair that seems out of place on the back of her head. It almost seems as if she is floating above the terrain since she is elevated so high above everything else. Her hand is slightly fat and twisted although her sleeves are still very well drawn. Her nose seems to stick out a lot and it makes her look fat around the edges. Her mouth seems almost too small for her but the shading job is exceptional and her abstruse smile makes it even more admirable. |
