This portrait is important and memorable because it shows Van Gogh when his ear was cut off and it shows how hard of a life that he must have had to cut his own ear off. You can’t help but stare right at the bandaged ear because it is the emphasis point of the whole painting. The color of this painting is also very memorable because of the contrasting colors between the dark green sweater against the light orange face. There is obvious harmony in this portrait. All of the colors compliment each other and there aren’t many abstract parts. All of the strokes are perfect and it is hard to tell what was intended and what was not. Everyone thinks of this painting or just the fact that he cut his ear off when you say Vincent van Gough because it is weird and strange, and people remember that. | ||
