The famous artist Leonardo Da Vinci drew the Mona Lisa sometime between the year 1503 and 1506, but some things are still unknown about her. There are many theories about what the Mona Lisa means, and what was intended when it was painted. The first, most obvious question, is why she is smiling? Many popular theories include:
- She wasn't, but that's how Da Vinci painted her.
- She knows a secret about the painting that no one else will ever know except Da Vinci.
- It's actually Da Vinci's self portrait, and she's smiling because no one will ever know.

Many scholars now believe that the Mona Lisa isn't a real person. For one, there is no evidence that this woman ever modeled for Da Vinci. Secondly, another famous portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci aligns perfectly with the Mona Lisa. Many art historians believe that this is because the Mona Lisa came from Da Vinci's portrait. However, no one really knows that much about the Mona Lisa.
