I think that Claude Monet’s picture of "Lady with Parasol" is and should be more memorable than the "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo daVinci. During the Renaissance, the period in which the Mona Lisa was made, many pictures used dark colors because that’s the common color that was found in that time. Which is why the Mona Lisa gives me a dark and gloomy feeling, when I look at it. But on the other hand, Claude Monet was an impressionist, and used many light and airy colors, like those used with "Lady with Parasol." Although both pictures have women with stern faces, Monet’s picture seems much more peaceful and relaxing with a blue sky and the complimentary yellow flowers. We live in a world that is full of hate. The Mona Lisa brings more gloom to the world, while Lady with Parasol is a calm day with a cool soft breeze, reflecting off the two human figures that are taking a walk through a spacious meadow. Claude Monet’s "Lady with Parasol" is similar in many ways to the Mona Lisa, except that there is a more vibrant mood, that that would be useful to many people especially in this day and age. Why should a dark, gloom filled portrait be the most memorable portrait of all time? "Lady with Parasol" is more peaceful, pleasant, happier, lighter, yet still creates mysterious looks to it, which I think could easily be liked by all.
