Deep Breathing

I could take a tremendous, deep breath
And go underwater for countless minutes
Take the chlorine out and fill it with the fragrance of roses
Take the goggles and swim-cap strapped round my head
Take the pool's ripples
Make a stroke
Put it on the surface of the water and let it shine
And while I strive for that single breath
Pulling my arm back
And skim the water's surface
