For Nov. 6, 2016, from Principal Katie Kinnaman: Announcements: Student Presidential Election! - The 2016 Presidential election cycle is in full swing! As a way to get our students involved in and excited about civics, the Jordan Social Studies Department will host a school-wide Student Mock Election in the library on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. This experience will help our students understand the civic responsibility of voting and participating in our democracy by giving them a chance to cast their own vote.
Additionally, seeing democracy in action will allow us to experience California History/Social Studies Content Standard 8.3 firsthand: “students understand the foundation of the American political system and the ways in which citizens participate in it.” In order for this day to be successful, we need your help! We need at least three parent volunteers per period (one parent per grade level) to oversee voting in the library. We are also utilizing student volunteers. Please use the attached link to sign up for a slot. If you scroll down through the document, you will notice that it is sorted by grade level and period. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s history teacher or Kirsten Missett History/Social Studies Instructional Supervisor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
