Changes to Roles:  Andrea Mone will be the Recorder for the rest of the year; Jan Prehn will facilitate for the remainder of the year; however as she is out ill, Molly Golden will facilitate today

PTA Report/JFC Grants – Glenn Krasner

- Will work with World Languages Dept. to have an International Festival (PTA had planned prior to knowledge of World Languages event; will now collaborate

- Budget cuts – 15K (major cut = Homework Center); school site covering balance

- Sent out a 2nd appeal letter to raise funds

- Hosting ValentineŐs lunch for teachers on Thursday

- Kicking off JFC Grants – target to have grants approved the end of March; proposals to come in by March 16; plan for committee to meet once

Site Council Member for JFC; target date March 20; total funds for JFC 4K;

JFC mandate focused on collaboration

 

PrincipalŐs Report – Suzanne Barbarasch

- Electives Night – well attended; no sense of sign ups yet; counselors are reviewing requests

- Teachers participating in Staff Development on Diversity this Friday (two speakers Milton Reynolds and Katia Peterson); organized by Diversity Committee; kick off by Danae Gray of the Equity Team at the Staff Meeting on Wednesday Feb 14th

- Search for Superintendent - Feb 27th 6:30 one at Paly one at Gunn; slots for individual/small groups 27-28

- Announcement from Christina Regalia – long range master planning with regard to facilities; potential bond initiatives

- Cultural Day, Asian New Year celebration on Thursday

- Jordan selected as one of five sites in the District to focus on conservation (Nick Kester will be at March Staff Meeting – how do we use our resources; school could receive ½ of what they save through these efforts)

- Bids have gone out for cameras

- CA Assoc for the Gifted will visit Jordan March 2nd

 

Funding Proposals for Music, Science, English, Social Studies & Art

Balance? 29,316 need to verify

 

Art – Proposal for kiln very urgent (state funds have not been forthcoming yet); $2581.76 APPROVED (District will cover the wiring fees)

 

Music – Need additional 3K to take care of staffing needs

Going forward for next year – Staff issues be brought to the attention of Site Council in the spring (by May) for concerns for the next school year

Funding concerns should not come up after individuals hired

Money for Music Aides used to come from PTA (no longer can fund salary)

Approve with the recommendation to come forward with Staffing Needs in advance; $3,000 APPROVED

 

English – Proposal for Lit Circle funds

Related to "Coming of Age" thematic unit; differentiated; potential pilots for nest core lit adoption; APPROVED $3,000 out of the $4730.60 with the recommendation to seek the remaining funding from GATE for example

 

Social Studies – Needs to go through Tech Committee first; hold off to next meeting

 

Science – Are the high school level and college video series appropriate?  Have they been reviewed – can middle school students relate?    Teachers can get "An Inconvenient Truth" for free; Electronic Balances funds $1872.64 APPROVED
