ZEN

Many kinds.

12th century- Zen Buddhism most popular in Japan.

Stresses meditation.

Becoming wise and achieving inner peace.

Zen practices special meditation called Zazen.

Zazen clears mind of thoughts and desires.

Meditation is in the lotus position with crossed legs, soles of feet upward, straight back and chin tucked in.

Priests and monks face the wall when meditating.

Sometimes they fall asleep.

Entering Buddhism Shrine.

If sleepy other monks whack them on the shoulders to keep awake, place hands together and bow, strike metal gong , light an incense stick.
