Blooey's
Editorials-What matters more: design or content?
And now for another editorial! The current topic is: "What matters more: design or content?" Today, we will experiment by writing this editorial in a script format. Blooey will start us off. Ahem...Blooey?
Blooey: *snoring* *wakes up startled* Yeah...what was the topic again?
Narrator: *looks at Blooey and lets out an exasperated sigh* "What matters more, design or content?"
Blooey: Oh...yeah. Um, well, content matters more, but design is pretty important too. Without a good design and layout, the text would probably be strewn all over the place and would be pretty hard to read. If you have an eye-catching design, the visitor will probably like your site more than if it was just a plain white page with text and links on it.
Narrator: Yes, but usually, when you have a good design, it takes a long time to load on a slow connection. Most people have a 56K modem, and that's pretty slow to me.
Blooey: Yeah, but good web designers use a technique called compression. There are some programs that can compress images and make them into smaller files. Similarly, there are also a few good programs out there that can compress files and make them faster for slow connections to download.
Narrator: That's right. What about the content? Isn't it true that if you have a lot of text on one page, it will also lengthen the time it takes for the visitor's browser to download the whole page?
Blooey: Yes, it's true. That's why most people split up the text and put them onto multiple pages.
Narrator: But if you have one page's worth of content on multiple pages, how will the visitors find the rest of the pages?
Blooey: Easy, the webmaster has to add hyperlinks to each related page on all the pages.
Narrator: Okay, that's all for today, good bye and thank you for tuning in to Blooey's Editorials!
Blooey: *yawn* Yeah, whatever.
