Leukemia

1. A disease that affects the part of the body that makes blood

2. Weakens the immune system, so even the common cold would make a student with Leukemia miss school

3. Healthy blood comprises of platelets, blood-forming tissue, white blood cells, red blood cells

4. People w/ Leukemia have cancer cells in those parts of blood

5. They become anemic, and have painful joints and bones. Their clots don't form properly or not at all, so they continue bleeding for a long time.

Our Help

1. The money we get helps a researcher search for a researcher ($0.27 a day), a child w/ patient aid for two weeks ($0.14 a day), helps a child for a year ($1.36 a day).

2. We want to help but we want to spread information about Leukemia to our school and let students realize where their money is going.

3. Ideas

            - posters around our school with the chart of how much a quarter or so a day does

            - the chart of a quarter or so a day on each collection box

            - profits from Valagrams to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

            - sell Valentine bears

            - have assemblies with our school to raise awareness about Leukemia (maybe during a Pride Assembly?)

4. Chloe will be the person to keep in contact with Jennifer through email or phone

5. Mrs. Barbarasch will be at our Student Council meeting next week. (Chirag will confirm.)
