Introduction for 6th Graders

1. First meeting with the 6th grade elected candidates.

2. Going over the Student Council guidelines (see minutes from 8/23/06).

3. Still donÕt have solid numbers from the magazine drive yet.

Clubs

1. 10 clubs went through the official process and did everything right, but after the club sign-ups, a few more clubs popped up

a. ItÕs up to us whether or not we want to approve those clubs.

2. Budget-wise right now we can support about 10 clubs, but thanks to Ms. Richards and the enormous profit from the Yearbook Club, we can afford to support more clubs. Ms. Richards generously agreed to give some of the profits to Student Council. J

3. 8 clubs went through the process perfectly and had enough members

a.     Japan Club didnÕt go through the process right, but weÕre letting it continue anyway because itÕs a well-established club.

b.     Dodgeball Club has a lot of interest as well. Ms. Pappas wanted a maximum number of 30 members, but 42 signed up.

c.     Will discuss with Ms. Pappas how to select 30 from the 42 in a fair way.

4. For the clubs that didnÕt turn in the forms that don't have a lot of interest, we can ask them if the teacher sponsor want to do it without being paid.

a.     If they donÕt, it's okay; the club will just have to wait until next year when they turn in the club forms on time J

New Direction

1.     Gave a little background info to 6th graders about our idea of a new direction for Student Council.

2.     Discuss more next meeting, after the new officers have a chance to ponder the idea.
