First Advisory Rep Meeting--only 40 reps attended.

Advisory Representative Duties

1.     As an Advisory Rep, you are the link between thirty students and us.

2.     You report to your Advisory Class the issues we discussed at the rep meetings.

3.     Conversely, you will tell us your Advisory's ideas, questions, and concerns.

4.     Ideas are a big one; don't leave us out of any! No ideas are too stupid to bring up.

a. Make sure it's executable

5.     We want to know how you think our school can be improved.

Magazine Drive

1.     Great news; there's no bonus day this year!

2.     That means we sales were pretty good and we should be able to fund things adequately this school year.

3.     Part of that reason was the gifts; they were a great addition.

4.     Can't disclose specific numbers yet because the counting the money and processing orders aren't done yet. There were late orders turned in after the last turn-in day.

5.     Eighth grade sold the least and sixth grade sold the most. Seventh graders sold a fair amount.

6.     Unfortunately, baseball game was a horrible failure. Three eighth graders sold thirteen magazinesÉ and we purchased fifty tickets.

7.     The three eighth graders can't go to the game now, but they'll be compensated with other prizes.

8.     We just have to face the facts that eighth graders don't sell as much.

6th Grade Elections

1.     Sixth grade elections are coming up! Sixth graders, remind your classmates to turn their things in on time.

a. Deadline for teacher recommendation forms & registration forms tomorrow.

2.     Vote for the person who you think will do a good job at the positionÉ not who's your friend or who's popular. If a bad candidate wins, it's your school that will suffer.

New Direction For Student Council

1.     We're considering a new direction for Student Council.

2.     Fewer or no fundraisers; instead, we will be putting more time and energy onto our school

3.     Right now we're doing three fundraisers (Magazine Drive, Turkey Trot, Pennies for Patients) and all our Student Council time has been focused on fundraisers

4.     We want to replace that with doing things that help our school: such as setting up recycling programs, discouraging bullying, working on the long lunch lines, etc.

5.     The generosity behind the fundraisers and the golden message was lost--people only participated to win prizes or to be better than others. They didn't really care about helping out.

a. People donated hundreds of tea bags and Top Raman packagesÉ without thinking that a human being could not possibly live on tea and artificial junk!

6.     Also, we want to execute our election promises

Budget

1.     Ms. Slack and Ms. Limburg, the teacher advisors of the Jordan Math Club, requested to be paid extra the same amount as other teachers who run lunchtime clubs. Math Club has over seventy members and takes a lot of effort to run.

a. Voted on paying those teachers extra, and all 8 officers approved.
